About this book

Often, we watch a performance and form an opinion about whether an actor’s work is good or bad, and then move on. But we rarely know the effort and preparation an actor has put into a role. Some actors and actresses, however, consistently win the hearts of audiences with their effortless acting. These skilled artists have firmly established their place in the field.

In this book, author and senior film-theatre scholar Jayshree Danve explores the journey of 16 such actors, presenting them as both individuals and artists. Some of these performers have been honored with the Natashreshtha Jayshankar Danve Kalayatri Award.

The book also highlights the careers of select senior and talented actors such as Neelu Phule, Dr. Shriram Lagu, Bharat Jadhav, Subodh Bhave, and Sachin Khedekar, showing their journey and contribution to cinema and theatre.

Jayshree Jayshankar Danve is a senior scholar of film and theatre. She worked for over two decades as a music teacher at Tara Rani University, Kolhapur. To date, she has published nearly 31 books and has received numerous awards for her work and writing. Her articles have appeared frequently in leading newspapers and journals. Alongside writing, she also performs as a playback singer and conducts literary recitation programs.
