Rita Date

With a life shaped by curiosity, resilience, and a deep commitment to well-being, she has spent over three decades exploring the interconnected paths of yoga, meditation, and nutrition.

Her journey began when she moved to Pune more than 30 years ago. Arriving with a simple desire to learn yoga, she faced initial challenges—limited knowledge of the local language and difficulty navigating a new city. Undeterred, she explored various yoga traditions before finding her foundation at the BKS Iyengar Institute, where she trained as a dedicated student for many years. Her continued exploration of different styles, both in India and from her experiences in the United States, eventually shaped a unique, integrative approach to her own practice and teaching.

A turning point came when a severe injury interrupted her yoga journey. This challenge led her inward, opening the door to meditation. With the same spirit of inquiry, she explored multiple techniques until discovering a practice that deeply resonated with her, further enriching her holistic understanding of wellness.

Her relationship with food has been equally transformative. Raised with a love for diverse cuisines—from the rich, aromatic Konkani dishes of her heritage to the comforting familiarity of New York pizza—food has always been central to her life. However, her move from the United States to India brought significant dietary and cultural adjustments. As she built her family, these challenges became more personal: her daughter struggled with regular eating habits, while her son required a carefully monitored heart-healthy diet.

Motivated by these experiences, she pursued formal studies in nutrition. With a natural inclination toward research and analysis, her background in journalism helped her connect deeply with the science of nutrition, translating complex information into practical, meaningful solutions.

Today, her work reflects a harmonious blend of her passions. She supports individuals in overcoming food-related challenges with both scientific knowledge and compassionate guidance, writes accessible books on mindful eating, and creates nurturing yoga spaces where people can reconnect with their bodies and inner awareness.

At the core of her philosophy is a simple yet powerful belief: true wellness is not found in rigid rules or complicated systems, but in learning to listen—to the body, to emotional and physical needs, and to the quiet wisdom that emerges when one allows space to simply breathe.
