मी, अण्णासाहेबांनी कृषिक्षेत्रात केलेले कार्य पुस्तकरूपाने शब्दबद्ध करायचे

ठरविले, तेव्हा मला मोठ्या प्रमाणात आवश्यक ती माहिती गोळा करावी लागली. ज्या शास्त्रज्ञांचा देशातील हरितक्रांती यशस्वी करण्यात मोठा सहभाग होता, त्यांच्याकडून त्यासंबंधीच्या अधिकृत माहितीची नितांत गरज होती. त्यांनी ती माहिती मला उपलब्ध करून दिली. हे सर्वजण जागतिक दर्जाचे शास्त्रज्ञ होते. सुमारे ४० ते ६० वर्षांपूर्वी त्यांनी अण्णासाहेबांबरोबर कृषि व अन्न खात्यात स्वतःला झोकून देऊन काम केले होते. त्यांपैकी अनेक जण आज हयात नाहीत. काही तर खूपच वयोवृद्ध झालेले असल्यामुळे त्यांच्याशी संपर्क होऊ शकला नाही.

'केंद्रीय कृषि भवन' येथील डॉ. नेगी यांच्यामार्फत डॉ. पी. एन. भट यांच्याशी संपर्क केला. डॉ. पी. एन. भट यांनी अण्णासाहेबांबरोबर काम केले होते. त्यांनी प्रयत्नपूर्वक वेगवेगळ्या कृषिशास्त्रज्ञांचे पत्ते मला मिळवून दिले. डॉ. एम. एस. स्वामीनाथन, डॉ. पी. एस. कंवर, डॉ. रांगणेकर, डॉ. भट आणि डॉ. आर. एम. आचार्य आदीनी माझ्या विनंतीला अगदी तत्काळ प्रतिसाद दिला आणि मला सर्वतोपरी सहकार्य केले. डॉ. के. के. अय्या, डॉ. एच. के. जैन, डॉ. आर. नागशेखर, डॉ. एन. पी. जी. राव, डॉ. एम. व्ही. राव, डॉ. के. जी. तेजवानी, डॉ. कीतीं सिंग आणि डॉ. जे. एस. पी. राव या मान्यवर शास्त्रज्ञांनीदेखील अतिशय चांगला प्रतिसाद दिला व आवश्यक ते सहकार्य केले. या सर्वांमुळे मला अण्णासाहेबांच्या कार्याविषयी अतिशय मौल्यवान माहिती मिळाली. या सर्व मान्यवरांनी मला अधिकृत माहिती उपलब्ध करून दिल्यामुळेच हे शब्दरूपी पुस्तक साकार होत आहे. म्हणून मी या सर्व मान्यवर शास्त्रज्ञांचे अगदी अंतःकरणापासून आभार मानतो.

आमचे स्नेही सविता भावे, सबरीना कानन पल्ली, पॉल आणि वत्सला डिसूझा व ब्रायन लोगो यांनी या पुस्तकाचे मुद्रित वाचन करून या पुस्तकाची पुनर्रचना करून दिली. नंदू डांगे यांनी एका लेखाचे भाषांतर करून दिले व पुस्तक छपाईच्या दृष्टीने आवश्यक ती मदत केली.

When I decided to document Dr. Annasaheb Shinde’s work in the agricultural sector in the form of a book, I had to collect a large amount of essential information. It was particularly necessary to obtain official information from the scientists who had played a major role in making India’s Green Revolution successful. They kindly provided me with that information. All of them were world-class scientists. Around 40 to 60 years ago, they had devoted themselves wholeheartedly to working with Dr. Annasaheb in the Agriculture and Food Departments. Many of them are no longer alive, and some were too elderly to be contacted.

Through Dr. Negi at the Central Agricultural Building, I was able to get in touch with Dr. P.N. Bhat, who had worked closely with Dr. Annasaheb. Dr. Bhat, with great effort, provided me with the contacts of various agricultural scientists. Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Dr. P.S. Kanwar, Dr. Rangnekar, Dr. Bhat, and Dr. R.M. Acharya immediately responded to my requests and extended their full cooperation. Eminent scientists such as Dr. K.K. Ayya, Dr. H.K. Jain, Dr. R. Nagashekar, Dr. N.P.G. Rao, Dr. M.V. Rao, Dr. K.G. Tejwani, Dr. Kiti Singh, and Dr. J.S.P. Rao also responded generously and provided the necessary assistance.

Thanks to all of them, I was able to gather extremely valuable information about Dr. Annasaheb’s work. This book could only take shape because these distinguished scientists provided official information, and I sincerely express my heartfelt gratitude to all of them.
