ग्रामीण भागात एका शेतकरी कुटुंबातील जन्म, 'शिक्षक' असलेल्या वडिलांचे संस्कार, कर्मवीरांच्या 'रयत शिक्षण संस्थेत' शिक्षण ही डॉ. राजेंद्र सरकाळे यांची शिदोरी. आणि म्हणूनच शेती-शेतकरी हा त्याच्या जिव्हाळ्याचा, आंतरिक तळमळीचा विषय.

जगातील सुमारे पंचवीस देशांना त्यांनी शेतीच्या अभ्यासाकरिता भेटी दिल्या. ईस्राईल, चीन, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, न्यूझीलंड, जपान, युरोपीय देश, मध्यपूर्वेतील या देशातील शेतीचा अतिशय सखोल अभ्यास केला. निरीक्षणे नोंदविली. आपल्या घरच्या शेतीत त्यातील अनेक प्रयोग यशस्वी केले आहेत. असे प्रयोग आपल्या गावात, जिल्ह्यात, राज्यात, देशात करता येतील हा त्यांचा दुर्दम्य विश्वास.
