Puranatil Neetikatha

Author(s):  Anjali Parvate

In the vast heritage of Indian culture, the Puranas are not merely collections of ancient stories; they are repositories of wisdom that provide guidance for life, preserve moral values, and help create a conscientious society. Based on the principle of “Pura Navam Bhavati” (“the old becomes new”), these timeless works continue to reveal fresh meanings with the passage of time, making them as relevant and useful today as ever.

Through a selection of moral tales from the Puranas, this book offers valuable guidance on how one should behave and how one should not. Stories of figures such as Yayati, Bhagiratha, Saraswati, and the siblings Yama and Yami vividly portray aspects of human nature, including greed, devotion, self-discipline, and a sense of duty. These narratives are not merely entertaining; they present the philosophy of life in a simple, accessible, and deeply touching manner.

One of the defining features of the Puranas is their graceful language, rich storytelling tradition, and commitment to the welfare of society. They played a crucial role in bringing the profound teachings of the Vedas and Smritis to the common people through engaging narratives. For this reason, these moral stories continue to serve as meaningful guides in contemporary life.

This book does more than tell stories—it encourages readers to reflect, fosters an awareness of values, and inspires them to make their lives richer, more thoughtful, and more meaningful.
