About this book

Dreams, Struggle, and Achievement — The Inspiring Story of Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Dorothy Vaughan

This is the true story of three African-American women who worked at NASA in the 1950s–60s — Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Dorothy Vaughan — who, through their mathematical brilliance, not only shaped the history of space exploration but also challenged social injustice.

Facing struggle and social discrimination:
They built their place at NASA while confronting racism, sexism, and institutional barriers.

A revolution through mathematics:
Through complex mathematical calculations, they made space missions possible. Katherine Johnson calculated the trajectory for astronaut John Glenn’s mission.

Breaking barriers in leadership:
Dorothy Vaughan became the first African-American female supervisor and led the computing division.

Engineering and mentorship:
Mary Jackson worked as an engineer and also mentored women, encouraging them to pursue careers in science and engineering.

A blend of science and women’s empowerment:
Through science, they demonstrated the power to transform society and inspired many young women to enter the field of STEM.

This is not just the story of scientists — it is a remarkable journey of dreams, struggle, and achievement.
