About this book

The siblings Jnanadev and his brothers and sisters symbolize extraordinary talent, exceptional intellect, and compassion. The first reliable biography of Sant Jnanadev, which is revered with deep faith by the Varkari tradition, is “Shri Jnanadev Charitra” written by the eminent devotee Sant Namdev Maharaj.

Sant Jnanadev is regarded as an ocean of knowledge, while Sant Namdev is a fountain of devotion. Namdev has presented the complete life of Jnanadev through the sections Adi, Tirthavali, and Samadhi.

Jnanadev worked to liberate society from the rigid constraints of caste and religion, bringing together saints and common people under the umbrella of the Bhagavata tradition. Namdev, on the other hand, carried the message of this tradition as far as Punjab. The pilgrimage of these two great saints represents a true confluence of devotion and knowledge.

In the Varkari tradition, this biography holds a place of daily recitation. This analytical book by Dr. Sadanand More (Dehukar) highlights the greatness of this biography and presents a scholarly discussion on the debates among researchers regarding its authorship:

“Sant Jnanadev Charitra (Adi, Tirthavali, Samadhi) by Bhaktashiromani Namdev Maharaj.”
