पुण्यश्लोक मातोश्री अहिल्याबाई होळकर यांचे आभाळाएवढे कर्तृत्व सगळ्यांनाच ठाऊक आहे. त्यावर आधारित अनेक चरित्रे, कादंबऱ्या आजवर प्रकाशित झाल्या आहेत. पेशव्यांचे अत्यंत विश्वासू आणि अत्यंत पराक्रमी सरदार मल्हारराव होळकर यांच्या  सूनबाई आणि पतिनिधनानंतर माळवा प्रांताचा कारभार उत्तमप्रकारे सांभाळणाऱ्या कुशल, प्रजाहितदक्ष, आणि दानशूर प्रशासक म्हणून अहिल्याबाईंना आपण ओळखतो.  पण आधी पती आणि त्यानंतर एकामागोमाग एक अशा जिवलगांचा मृत्यू ज्यांना बघावा लागला, आणि तरीही ज्या वैयक्तिक दुःख बाजूला ठेवून केवळ प्रजेचाच विचार करीत राहिल्या..., मनातून कोसळलेल्या  पण प्रजेसाठी आधार म्हणून खंबीरपणे उभ्या राहणाऱ्या, पेशवाईशी अभंग निष्ठा राखणाऱ्या आणि तरीही प्रसंगी आपल्या अधिकारांची जाणीव करून देणाऱ्या अहिल्याबाईंचे  'स्त्री अहिल्या' हे रूप आणि त्यांचा जीवनप्रवास आपल्याला या कादंबरीत पाहावयास मिळतो. अर्थपूर्ण, प्रभावी भाषा आणि खिळवून ठेवेल अशी शैली यामुळे सर्वच वर्गातील वाचकांना आणि अभ्यासकांनाही ही कादंबरी नक्कीच आवडेल.
