भारतीय तत्त्वज्ञान उपनिषदांमधून सांगितले गेले आहे. वेद आणि ब्राह्मण ग्रंथ हे यज्ञसंस्कृतीला पूरक असे साहित्य, यज्ञांत म्हटली जाणारी सूक्ते वेदांमध्ये होती आणि त्या सूक्तांचा कोणत्या यज्ञात कधी वापर करायचा हे सांगण्यासाठी ब्राह्मण ग्रंथांची निर्मिती झाली; पण नंतरच्या काळात माणूस केवळ कर्मकांडात न रमता संसारातून थोडा बाजूला होऊन अरण्यात राहून जगाच्या निर्मितीविषयी विचार करू लागला तेव्हा उपनिषदांची निर्मिती झाली. उपनिषदांमध्ये वेदांचे सार आहे. त्यामुळेच उपनिषदे, वेदवाङ्मय यांविषयी सर्वसामान्यांना नेहमीच उत्सुकता असते.
'उपनिषद' हे संवादरूप साहित्य आहे. संवादाच्या माध्यमातून एखादी कथाच आपल्यासमोर उलगडत जाते. शिवाय याच कथांच्या माध्यमातून आजच्या आधुनिक काळाशी संबंधित ठरतील अशा अनेक उपयुक्त गोष्टीही वाचायला मिळतात. त्यामुळेच लहानांसह तरुण पिढीनेही त्या वाचायला हव्यात. मूल्यशिक्षण त्यांच्या मनात सहजपणे रुजावे, यासाठी तर या कथा अतिशय महत्त्वाच्या ठरतात.
दहा प्रमुख उपनिषदांमधील कथा याशिवाय प्राचीन शिक्षण पद्धती, गुरू-शिष्यांचे अनेकपदरी नाते या पुस्तकातून उलगडायला मदत होईल.
Indian philosophy has been explained through the Upanishads. The Vedas and the Brahmana texts are literature that support the culture of yajnas (sacrificial rituals). The hymns recited during yajnas are found in the Vedas, and the Brahmana texts were created to explain in which yajna and at what time those hymns should be used. However, in later times, human beings began to move beyond mere rituals. People started withdrawing from worldly life, living in forests, and reflecting on the creation of the universe. It was during this period that the Upanishads came into existence. The Upanishads contain the essence of the Vedas, and therefore people have always been curious about the Upanishads and Vedic literature.
The Upanishads are written in the form of dialogues. Through these dialogues, a story gradually unfolds before the reader. Moreover, through these stories, one can also find many useful ideas that are relevant even in the modern age. Therefore, not only children but also the younger generation should read them. These stories are especially important for instilling values naturally in their minds.
This book will help readers understand the stories from the ten major Upanishads. In addition, it will also reveal aspects of the ancient education system and the many dimensions of the relationship between the teacher and the student.
