In tracing the journey of Maharashtra so far, it is interesting to examine exactly what changes have occurred in the rural areas and, in particular, how the village system (gavgada) has evolved over time. Recognizing this, former administrative officer and Sugar Commissioner Shri Shekhar Gaikwad has reviewed the changes in rural life in Maharashtra in this collection of articles.

While documenting changes in various aspects such as postal services, railways, schools, financial transactions, language, marriage customs, and agriculture, he has also successfully attempted to trace the footprints of culture within these transformations.

१९८९ ते ९१पर्यंत जिल्हा पुनर्वसन अधिकारी, १९९१ ते १९९४ सोलापूरचे प्रांताधिकारी, १९९४ ते ९५ सोलापूरचे जिल्हा पुरवठा अधिकारी, १९९५ ते २००५ हवेलीचे प्रांताधिकारी, मुख्यमंत्र्यांचे खासगी स्वीय साहाय्यक, मंत्रालयातील मंत्र्यांचे खासगी सचिव, जीवन प्राधिकरण (मुंबई) येथील मुख्य प्रशासकीय अधिकारी म्हणून कार्यरत.

वर्ष २००५मध्ये नाशिकचे अतिरिक्त जिल्हाधिकारी, २०१० ते २०१३ दरम्यान मुख्यमंत्र्यांच्या कार्यालयात सहसचिव आणि २०१३पासून ते ठाण्याचे मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी म्हणून कार्यरत.

जिल्हाधिकारी सांगली (२०१५-२०१७), भूजल संचालक (२०१७-२०१९), पुणे महापालिका आयुक्त (२०२०-२१) व महाराष्ट्राचे साखर आयुक्त (२०१९-२०२३) या महत्त्वाच्या पदांवर कामकाज.

शेती, कायदा, स्वस्त धान्य पुरवठा, महसूल व प्रशासन अशा विविध विषयांवर पुस्तक लेखन.

सांगलीतील अग्रणी नदीच्या पुनर्जीवनासाठी राष्ट्रीय जल पुरस्कार व घरपोच धान्य योजनेसाठी राजीव गांधी प्रशासकीय गतिमानता पुरस्कार प्राप्त. त्यांच्या शेतीचे कायदे पुस्तकास मराठी वाङ्मय पुरस्कार.

2019–2023: Sugar Commissioner of Maharashtra

2020–2021: Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation

He has written books on various topics including agriculture, law, subsidized grain supply, revenue, and administration.

Rajiv Gandhi Administrative Dynamism Award for the doorstep grain delivery scheme

His book on agriculture laws received the Marathi Literature Award.
