तत्कालीन महाराष्ट्रातील मरगळलेल्या, चेतनाहीन समाजाला संघटित करून, बलोपासनेचा संदेश देण्यासाठी बुद्धी आणि शक्तीचे मूर्तिमंत प्रतीक असलेल्या मारुतीरायांची उपासना समर्थांनी समाजासमोर ठेवली. समर्थांनी भारतभर जरी शेकडो मंदिरे स्थापन केली असली, तरी सातारा, सांगली, कोल्हापूर जिल्ह्यांतील समर्थस्थापित अकरा मारुतींचे वैशिष्ट्य वेगळे आहे. भक्तिमार्गाने समाज संघटित होतो, असे समर्थांना वाटत होते. भक्तीचे अधिष्ठान ठेवून मारुतीरायांची उपासना करण्यासाठी समर्थांनी या अकरा मारुतींची स्तोत्रे रचली. या स्तोत्रांतून हनुमंताच्या विविध रूपांचे वर्णन केले आहे. समर्थ स्थापित अकरा मारुतींचे स्थलमाहात्म्य व गुणमाहात्म्य या पुस्तकात सांगितले आहे.
In the then Maharashtra, to organize a fragmented and unaware society and to spread the message of strength and devotion, Samarth (Samarth Ramdas) presented the worship of Marutiraya—a living symbol of intellect and power—before the people. Although Samarth established hundreds of temples across India, the eleven Maruti idols established by Samarth in the districts of Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur have a special significance.
Samarth believed that society could be united through the path of devotion. To facilitate the worship of Marutiraya while keeping devotion at its core, Samarth composed stotras (hymns) for these eleven Marutis. These hymns describe the various forms of Hanuman. The book “Sthalamahatmya and Gunamahatmya of the Eleven Marutis Established by Samarth” details the sanctity and virtues of these eleven Maruti idols.
