‘सती: संघर्ष तिच्या अस्तित्वाचा' या कादंबरीत कादंबरीकार दीपा गायतोंडे यांनी सतीप्रथेची समस्या उलगडून दाखवण्याचा प्रयत्न केला आहे. सतीप्रथेमागील सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, मानसिक पैलू उलगडून दाखवण्याचा स्तुत्य प्रयत्न लेखिकेने या कादंबरीत केला आहे. १९८७ साली ‘राज कुंवर’ ही युवती सती गेल्यावर झालेल्या चर्चा ऐकल्यानंतर या कादंबरीचं बीज लेखिकेच्या मनात पडलं. त्यानंतर अनेक वर्षांनी सती प्रथेचा सांगोपांग अभ्यास करून लेखिकेने ही कादंबरी रचली आहे. या कादंबरीतला काळ एकोणिसाव्या शतकातला असून तत्कालीन जीवनाचं कसदार चित्रण लेखिकेनं यात केलं आहे. ‘उमा’ या पात्राच्या नजरेतून कथन करण्यात आलेली ही कादंबरी वाचनीय असून वास्तवाचा दाहक आविष्कार करणारी आहे.

The novel Sati: Sangharsh Tichya Astitvacha by Deepa Gayatonde attempts to explore and expose the problem of the Sati practice. The author has admirably highlighted the social, cultural, and psychological aspects behind this practice. The seed for this novel was planted in the author’s mind in 1987, after hearing discussions about the young woman Raj Kunwar who had committed Sati. Many years later, after a thorough study of the Sati tradition, the author wrote this novel. The story is set in the 19th century, and the author provides a vivid portrayal of life during that period. Narrated from the perspective of the character Uma, this novel is highly readable and presents a stark and powerful depiction of reality.
