During the time of World War II, to escape Nazi persecution, a Jewish family took refuge in a secret annex in Amsterdam. There, thirteen-year-old Anne Frank recorded her daily experiences, fears, dreams, and hopes in her diary.

Savita Damle is a Marathi translator, writer, and poet. She voluntarily retired from the State Bank in 2013 to devote herself full-time to writing and translation. She has translated over 53 English books for prominent Marathi publishers such as Popular, Rajhans, Manovikas, Diamond, Manjul, Madhushree, Granthali, Mehta, and the Sahitya Akademi.

Her notable translations include “Jerusalem: A Biographical Story”, “Mahatma Gandhi: Charitra Darshan”, “Nehruanchi Savli”, “Gulzar’s Screenplays”, Melinda Gates’ autobiography, “Mossad”, and others. She also transcribed the autobiography “Maze Gane, Maze Jivne” by Lavani Samrajni Sulochana Chavan, and translated biographies of Ratan Tata and Sharmila Irom.

Her poems, articles, translated stories, and interviews have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. In the Sakal newspaper, she wrote the regular column “Nokrichakari”.

  • Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan (Women’s Platform), Mumbai, for remarkable contributions in Marathi translation
  • Maharashtra Granthottejak Sanstha, Pune, 2020
  • Her translated articles have been included in the Class 10 Marathi curriculum for Maharashtra and Karnataka boards, as well as in the FYBA Marathi syllabus, 2023.
