Apatya Janmache Samajbhan

स्त्री-रोगतज्ज्ञ आणि प्रसूतिशास्त्रतज्ज्ञ म्हणून डॉ. किशोर अतनूरकर प्रसिद्ध आहेत. रुग्णांशी संवाद साधण्याच्या हातोटीमुळे डॉ. अतनूरकरांकडे अनुभवांची भलीमोठी शिदोरी आहे. त्यामुळे अपत्यजन्माकडे ते फक्त एक नैसर्गिक प्रक्रिया या दृष्टिकोनातून बघत नाहीत. ‘अपत्यजन्म ही एक गांभीर्याने घेण्याची गोष्ट आहे,’ या त्यांच्या विचारातून ‘अपत्यजन्माचे समाजभान’ पुस्तकाचा जन्म झाला आहे! अपत्यजन्माच्या वैयक्तिक, कौटुंबिक, शैक्षणिक, आर्थिक, भौगोलिक, कायदेविषयक आणि रूढी-परंपराविषयक बाजूंचाही विचार लेखकाने या पुस्तकात मांडला आहे. गर्भधारणा ही पूर्वनियोजितच असायला हवी, असा डॉ. अतनूरकर यांचा आग्रह आहे. गर्भधारणा आणि बाळंतपणाच्या बाबतीत जनमानसावर ज्या पारंपरिक प्रथांचा पगडा आहे, त्यातील कोणत्या सोडून द्यायला हव्यात, याचे तर्कशुद्ध विश्लेषण लेखकाने केले आहे. नॉर्मल प्रसूती की सिझेरियन आणि पुरुष नसबंदीबद्दलचे समाजभान हा कशा प्रकारे एक चिंतेचा विषय आहे; अशा विविध मुद्द्यांना पुस्तकात स्पर्श करण्यात आला आहे.

Dr. Kishor Atnoorkar is well known as a gynecologist and obstetrician. Owing to his skill in communicating with patients, Dr. Atnoorkar has gathered a vast treasure of experiences. Therefore, he does not view childbirth merely as a natural process. His belief that “childbirth is a matter that must be taken seriously” led to the creation of the book “Apatyajanmache Samajbhan” (“Social Awareness of Childbirth”).

In this book, the author discusses the personal, familial, educational, economic, geographical, legal, and traditional aspects related to childbirth. Dr. Atnoorkar strongly emphasizes that pregnancy should always be planned in advance.

The author has also provided a logical analysis of which traditional practices and beliefs surrounding pregnancy and childbirth should be abandoned. The book touches upon various important issues such as normal delivery versus cesarean section, and how society’s attitude toward male sterilization has become a matter of concern.
