छत्रपती शिवाजीमहाराज हे आपले राष्ट्रपुरुष आहेत. शिवाजीमहाराज आणि त्यांचा राजाभिषेक हा आपल्या सर्वांच्या अभिमानाचा विषय आहे. शिवाजीमहाराजांच्या अफाट पराक्रमामुळे आनंदनाम संवत्सर, शके १५९६, ज्येष्ठ शुद्ध १३, ६ जून १६७४ या आनंदमय दिवशी हिंदवी स्वराज्याची स्थापना झाली. रायगडावर वेदमंत्रांच्या पवित्र घोषात झालेल्या राजाभिषेकविधीने शिवाजीराजे 'छत्रपती सिंहासनाधीश्वर महाराज' म्हणून अजरामर झाले.

शतकानुशतके आपल्याच मायभूमीवर गुलामीचे जीवन जगणाऱ्या प्रजेसाठी ही स्वातंत्र्याची पहाट होती. हा राजाभिषेक म्हणजे आपल्या भारतभूमीवरील फार मोठी ऐतिहासिक, सामाजिक, धार्मिक, राजनैतिक सांस्कृतिक अशी क्रांतिकारी घटना होती. सुवर्णाक्षरात नमूद करण्याजोग्या युगप्रवर्तक अशा या शिवराजाभिषेकविधीसाठी काशीस्थित प्रकाण्ड्पण्डित गागाभट्ट यांनी श्रुति, स्मृति, धर्म, पुराण, राजनीती विषयक ग्रंथांमधील विश्वकल्याणात्मक परंपरांवर आधारित अद्वितीय असा प्रयोगग्रंथ रचला. आणि

प्रस्तुत 'गागाभट्टकृत-शिवराजाभिषेकप्रयोगः पुस्तकात अभिषेक, राजाभिषेक या संकल्पनांचा विकास, सात-आठ दिवस चाललेल्या अभिषेकविधीतील महत्त्वपूर्ण असे गौण व मुख्य विधी, त्यांतील आशयघन मंत्र यांवर पूर्णतः प्रकाश टाकणारा उपोद्घात, मूळ संस्कृत प्रयोगग्रंथाचे चिकित्सक संपादन आणि मराठी अनुवाद सादर केला आहे. तसेच जुन्या शकावली, बखरी इत्यादीतील अधिकृत तपशीलही दिल्यामुळे या संस्कृत ग्रंथाला ऐतिहासिक बाजही लाभून, शिवराजाभिषेकविषयक समग्र माहिती इथे एकत्रित स्वरूपात दिली आहे.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a revered national icon and a source of immense pride for all Indians. His coronation stands as one of the most glorious moments in Indian history. Owing to his extraordinary valor and visionary leadership, the dream of Hindavi Swarajya became a reality on the joyous day of 6 June 1674 (Jyeshtha Shuddha 13, Shaka 1596, Anand Samvatsara). On the fort of Raigad, amidst the sacred chanting of Vedic hymns, Shivaji Maharaj was ceremonially crowned and immortalized as "Chhatrapati Simhasanadhishwar Maharaj."

For the people who had endured centuries of subjugation in their own homeland, this coronation marked the dawn of freedom. It was not merely a royal ceremony but a landmark event that brought about a profound transformation in the political, social, religious, cultural, and diplomatic history of India. This epoch-making coronation deserves to be remembered in golden letters.

To conduct this historic ceremony, the eminent scholar Gaga Bhatt of Kashi composed a unique ritual manual based on the universal and welfare-oriented traditions found in the Vedas, Smritis, Dharmashastras, Puranas, and treatises on statecraft.

The present volume, "Gagabhattkrit Shivarajabhishekaprayogah," presents a comprehensive study of the concepts of Abhisheka (anointment) and Rajyabhisheka (royal coronation), tracing their historical development. It includes an insightful introduction that explains the significant major and minor rituals performed during the seven-to-eight-day coronation ceremony, along with the profound meanings of the sacred mantras recited during these rituals. The book also offers a critically edited edition of the original Sanskrit ritual text accompanied by a Marathi translation.
