संथ वाहणाऱ्या कृष्णेच्या तिरावरचं एक सुंदर शहर सांगली. या शहराचं गावपण अबाधित आहे. कृष्णेच्या काठावर वैविध्यपूर्ण शेती जशी फुलली, तशीच कला, क्रीडा, शिक्षण, सहकार-उद्योग यांची समृद्धीही लाभली. ‘सांगली बहु चांगली’ असं जेव्हा म्हटलं जातं, तेव्हा पिवळ्याधमक हळदीचा, आंबट-गोड द्राक्षांचा, लालभडक डाळिंबाने बहरलेला वैविध्यपूर्ण कृषी उत्पादनांचा परिसर नजरेसमोर येतो. महाराष्ट्राच्या राजकारणात मोठा दबदबा असलेला हा जिल्हा...साखर कारखानदारीमुळे सहकाराची पंढरी म्हणून देखील ओळखला जातो. ही संगीत, लोककला, संस्कृतीचं कलात्मक वैभव लाभलेली नाट्यपंढरी आहे. शंभरावं नाट्य संमेलनाची मुहूर्तमेढ इथंच रोवली गेली. सांगली हे दोनशे वर्षांचा इतिहास असलेलं तरुण शहर तर शेजारील मिरजेला प्राचीनत्व आणि मोठा ऐतिहासिक वारसा लाभलाय. प्राचीन काळात मिरजेचा उल्लेख आढळतो. ही वैद्यकीय पंढरी आहे. तंतुवाद्याची निर्मिती करणारे हे शहर प्राचीन वैभवाच्या खुणा लेऊन उभं आहे. सांगली व मिरज ही जुळी शहरे म्हणूनही ओळखली जातात. .. गेल्या सहा दशकांची ही सोनेरी पाने. - शेखर जोशी

It is a city that has inherited the artistic splendor of music, folk arts, and culture. The inauguration of the 100th Drama Conference was held here. Sangli, a city with a history of two hundred years, stands alongside neighboring Miraj, which boasts ancient heritage and rich historical legacy. Miraj finds mention even in ancient times and is known as a pandhari of medicine.

The city has also been famous for producing string instruments, carrying traces of its ancient glory. Sangli and Miraj are known as twin cities, complementing each other. These are the golden pages of the last six decades.
