Sangli, a beautiful city situated on the banks of the Krishna River, has retained its village-like charm. Just as diverse agriculture thrives along the river, the city has also prospered in arts, sports, education, and cooperative industries. When people say “Sangli Bahu Changli” (Sangli is very good), one envisions fields blooming with bright yellow turmeric, sweet-and-sour grapes, and red pomegranates—a region rich in diverse agricultural produce.
This district, which holds significant influence in Maharashtra’s politics, is also known as the pandhari of cooperatives due to its sugar industries. It is a city that has inherited the artistic splendor of music, folk arts, and culture. The inauguration of the 100th Drama Conference was held here. Sangli, a city with a history of two hundred years, stands alongside neighboring Miraj, which boasts ancient heritage and rich historical legacy. Miraj finds mention even in ancient times and is known as a pandhari of medicine.
The city has also been famous for producing string instruments, carrying traces of its ancient glory. Sangli and Miraj are known as twin cities, complementing each other. These are the golden pages of the last six decades.
