Shuddhipatra
The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was enacted by the Indian Constitution to ensure justice and fair treatment for communities that have suffered generations of discrimination and oppression. Special laws have also been introduced to protect minority communities. As a result, derogatory references to such social groups have naturally come under legal scrutiny.
However, can anyone truly be insulted or offended when caste-related terms are included with their meanings in a dictionary, which is itself a repository of linguistic heritage and knowledge?
This social novel portrays the legal battle fought by a language expert with a deep love for languages, who sought to prevent the removal of six specific words from a dictionary. Through this struggle, the novel explores the complex intersection of language, law, social justice, and freedom of expression.
