Bhamati is originally a wandering, free-pirited community from Rajasthan with a military background. Their traditional occupation was making earthenware from clay, and they were a community known for honesty and trustworthiness. However, during British rule, they were labeled as thieves and robbers.
Always living on the outskirts of villages, this community eventually had no permanent settlement of their own. Enduring injustice and oppression in silence, they wandered from one village to another. The compelling depiction of this displaced, wandering community forms the core strength of the novel Ghera.
