Mahabharat Kathamrut

बी. आर. चोप्रा यांनी १९८९-९०मध्ये महाभारतावर प्रदीर्घ दूरदर्शन मालिका केली होती. ही मालिका सुरू असतानाच दै. 'सकाळ'मधून महाभारताचे वास्तव दर्शन घडवणारे भा. द. खेर यांचे 'महाभारत कथामृत' हे सदर सुरू झाले होते. या लेखमालेला तत्कालीन वाचकांचा प्रचंड प्रतिसाद लाभला होता. कर्णवधानंतर चोप्रांनी ती दूरदर्शन मालिका आवरती घेतली होती. अर्थातच लेखमालाही तिथेच थांबवावी लागली होती. मूळ महाभारत समजून घेण्याच्या दृष्टीने या लेखमालेचे निश्चितच महत्त्व होते. दै. 'सकाळ'मध्ये प्रकाशित झालेली ती लेखमाला आता पुस्तकस्वरूपात प्रकाशित होत आहे. महाभारताच्या 'नीळकंठी' आवृत्तीवर आधारित हे कथामृत आहे. भांडारकर-संशोधित आवृत्ती आणि नीळकंठी आवृत्ती (कल्याण प्रत) यांमध्ये थोडा फरक आहे. तो भाग महाभारताच्या संशोधकांसाठी महत्त्वाचा आहे. तथापि, संपूर्ण महाभारत कथा समजावून घेण्यासाठी हे 'कथामृत' नक्कीच उपयोगी पडेल. चुकीचा आणि कल्पित इतिहास लोकमानसामधून दूर करण्यासाठी हे 'महाभारत कथामृत' निश्चितच फायदेशीर ठरेल.

In 1989-90, B. R. Chopra produced an extensive television series on the Mahabharata. While that series was ongoing, the column “Mahabharat Kathamrut” by Bha. Da. Kher, which presented the true essence of the Mahabharata, began appearing in the daily newspaper Sakal. This column received an overwhelming response from readers at the time. After the conclusion of the TV series, Chopra had to end it, and naturally, the column also had to pause.

From the perspective of understanding the Mahabharata in depth, this column was certainly significant. The column originally published in Sakal is now being released in book form. This Kathamrut is based on the “Neelkanthi” edition of the Mahabharata. There are slight differences between the Bhandarkar revised edition and the Neelkanthi edition (Kalyan printing), which are important for Mahabharata researchers.

Nevertheless, this Kathamrut will definitely be useful for anyone wishing to understand the Mahabharata’s entire story. It will also help remove misconceptions and fictitious interpretations of history from public consciousness, making Mahabharat Kathamrut highly beneficial.
