लेखक परिचय

आज सत्तरी ओलांडलेल्या अशोक केसरकर यांनी व्यापार शास्त्रातील पदवीनंतर अल्पकाळ प्राथमिक शिक्षक म्हणून आपल्या व्यावसायिक कारकिर्दीचा श्रीगणेशा केला. पुढे डेक्कन स्पिनिंग मिल या देशातील आद्य सहकारी सूतगिरणीत वीस वर्षाची सेवा बजावून प्रशासकीय अनुभव प्राप्त केला.

तथापि केसरकर यांची मूळची शिक्षकीवृत्ती त्यांना स्वस्थ बसू देत नसल्यामुळे त्यांनी आपली नोकरी सांभाळून मराठी व इंग्रजी माध्यमातील मुलांना घडविण्यात जवळजवळ पंचवीस वर्षांहून अधिक काळ घालविला.

यातूनच एक हाडाचा शिक्षक साकारत गेला.

शालेय जीवनापासून जडलेली वाचनाची आवड नोकरीच्या काळात विस्तारत गेली. शिवाय सूतगिरणीच्या मुखपत्राच्या संपादनाची जबाबदारी घेतल्यामुळे केसरकर यांच्या साहित्यिक छंदाला मोकळे आकाश मिळाले.

कामाच्या वैविध्यामुळे प्रत्यक्ष-अप्रत्यक्षपणे जाणीवांच्या कक्षा रुंदावत गेल्या आणि व्यापक अनुभवातून त्यांची मराठी भाषेशी मैत्री जडली.

यानंतर जवाहर साखर कारखान्याचा जनसंपर्क अधिकारी या नात्याने सरकारी, निमसरकारी आणि व्यक्तिगत पत्रव्यवहार हाताळण्याची संधी मिळाली. याच दरम्यान आपटे वाचन मंदिर या दिडशे वर्षाची परंपरा असलेल्या इचलकरंजीतील समृद्ध वाचनालयाच्या संचालक मंडळावर काम करीत असताना व्याख्यानमाला व अन्य सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमाच्या निमित्ताने साहित्यिक वर्तुळातील अनेक दिग्गजांचा सहवास घडला आणि वाङ्मयीन व्यासंग अधिक दृढ झाला. योगायोगाने 'शंभर धागे सुखाचे', 'धगधगते अग्निकुंड' आणि 'ज्ञानमार्गीचा सांगाती' असे तीन चरित्र ग्रंथ लिहिण्याची संधी चालून आली आणि एक आगळी शैली जमत गेली.

Ashok Kesarkar, now in his seventies, began his professional career as a primary school teacher after completing a degree in Commerce. He later worked for twenty years at Deccan Spinning Mill, one of the country’s earliest cooperative spinning mills, where he gained valuable administrative experience.

However, his innate passion for teaching never allowed him to remain confined. While continuing his job, he devoted more than twenty-five years to shaping students in both Marathi and English medium schools.

Through this journey, a true teacher at heart gradually emerged.

His love for reading, which began during his school days, continued to grow during his working years. Additionally, his responsibility of editing the in-house publication of the spinning mill gave his literary interests an open platform to flourish.

The diversity of his work broadened his awareness, both directly and indirectly, and through these wide-ranging experiences, he developed a deep bond with the Marathi language.

Later, as a Public Relations Officer at Jawahar Sugar Factory, he had the opportunity to handle official, semi-official, and personal correspondence. During this time, while serving on the board of Apte Reading Temple—a rich and historic library in Ichalkaranji with a legacy of 150 years—he came into contact with many eminent literary figures through lecture series and cultural programs, which further strengthened his literary pursuits.

By chance, he got the opportunity to write three biographical works—“Shambhar Dhage Sukhache,” “Dhagdhagate Agnikund,” and “Dnyanmargi cha Sangati”—and through these, he developed a distinctive writing style.
