Who is Professor Shonku? He is a middle-aged, eccentric scientist whose full name is Trilokeshwar Shonku. He lives in a small village called Giridih with his servant Pralad and his cat Newton. The scientific experiments conducted in his laboratory send waves of astonishment through the international scientific community. Because of his research, some people admire him and love him, while others become angry with him and harbor resentment.

The internationally acclaimed filmmaker, producer, and writer Satyajit Ray, who had a special interest in science, created the character of Professor Shonku and his adventurous stories. Professor Shonku’s first story was published in 1961 in the Bengali magazine Sandesh. Until his lifetime—1992—Satyajit Ray wrote a total of 49 science-adventure stories featuring Professor Shonku. Through these stories, he created a whole new world of science fiction in Bengali literature.

प्रारंभिक जीवन व पार्श्वभूमी:

सत्यजित रे यांचा जन्म कोलकाता येथे कला आणि साहित्य क्षेत्रात प्रतिष्ठित असलेल्या कुटुंबात झाला. त्यांनी आपले शिक्षण प्रेसिडेंसी कॉलेज येथे घेतले आणि पुढे शांतिनिकेतन येथे शिक्षण पूर्ण केले. येथे त्यांच्यावर रवींद्रनाथ टागोर यांच्या विचारांचा आणि सृजनशीलतेचा मोठा प्रभाव पडला.

चित्रपट निर्मिती शैली:

सत्यजित रे हे आपल्या चित्रपटांमध्ये प्रत्येक घटकावर बारकाईने लक्ष ठेवणारे दिग्दर्शक होते. ते कथा लेखन, संगीत, कलाकारांची निवड, संपादन आणि चित्रपटासाठीचे ग्राफिक डिझाइन स्वतः हाताळत. त्यांच्या चित्रपटांवर इटालियन निओरिअलिझमचा प्रभाव दिसतो, विशेषतः विट्टोरियो डे सिका यांच्या सायकल चोर या चित्रपटाचा.

अपू त्रयी:

त्यांचा पहिला चित्रपट पाथेर पनचाली (१९५५) आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तरावर प्रशंसित झाला. त्यानंतर अपराजितो (१९५६) आणि अपुंचा संसार (१९५९) या चित्रपटांचे प्रदर्शन झाले. या तिन्ही चित्रपटांना एकत्रितपणे अपू त्रयी म्हणतात आणि त्यांनी भारतीय समांतर चित्रपट चळवळीला जागतिक स्तरावर ओळख दिली.

साहित्य आणि कलात्मक कार्य:

चित्रपट व्यतिरिक्त, रे हे बंगाली भाषेतील विपुल लेखक होते. त्यांनी अनेक लोकप्रिय पात्रे निर्माण केली, जसे की गुप्तहेर फेलुदा आणि वैज्ञानिक प्रा. शोंकू. ते एक प्रसिद्ध चित्रकार, सुलेखनकार आणि ग्राफिक कलाकार देखील होते.

Filmmaking Style: Known for his meticulous control over every aspect of production, including writing, music, casting, and editing. He was deeply influenced by Italian Neorealism, specifically Vittorio De Sica's Bicycle Thieves.
The Apu Trilogy: His debut film, Pather Panchali (1955), which was followed by Aparajito (1956) and Apur Sansar (1959), gained international acclaim and brought global attention to Indian parallel cinema.
Literary & Artistic Works: Beyond film, Ray was a prolific author in Bengali, creating beloved characters like the detective Feluda and the scientist Professor Shonku. He was also a renowned graphic designer, calligrapher, and illustrator.
Awards & Legacy: He won numerous international awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Oscar in 1992, and India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna.
