Mandar Lawate is an Indian historian, researcher, and author based in Pune, widely recognized for his work in Maratha history and archival studies. He specializes in the Modi script, the script historically used to write Marathi during the Maratha period, and has conducted workshops to help others read and interpret old documents. Associated with the Bharat Itihas Sanshodhak Mandal, he has contributed significantly to the digitization and indexing of rare manuscripts, some dating back several centuries. अजित फाटक यांचा जन्म व M.E. पर्यंतचे शिक्षण बडोद्यास झाले आणि मग नोकरीनिमित्त ते पुण्यास आले.

त्यांनी इंजिनीयर म्हणून पुण्यात टेल्को कंपनीच्या रीसर्च सेंटरमध्ये ३२ वर्षे आणि नंतर अमेरिकेत फोर्ड व व्होल्वो या कंपन्यांत १० वर्षे काम केले. त्यांच्या निवृत्तीनंतर, २०१०च्या बडोदा भेटीत छायाचित्रांचा खजिना पाहताना ती पुण्यातील सर्व लोकांपर्यंत प्रदर्शनाद्वारे पोचविण्याचा विचार त्यांच्या पत्नी डॉ. सौ. किरण यांनी मांडला आणि डॉ अरुणनी हा सर्व खजिना पुण्याला पाठवून दिला छायाचित्रणाची आवड, निवृत्तीनंतरची सवड आणि भा वाकडून मिळालेला दादांच्या छायाचित्रांचा खजिना असा त्रिवेणी योग अजित यांच्यासाठी जुळून आला

त्यांनी या सर्व छायाचित्रांवर भरपूर काम केले। प्रथम त्यांनी स्वतः या सर्व छायाचित्रांचे वर्गीकरण व डिजीटायझेशन केले. काही निवडक छायाचित्रांसाठी, 'तेव्हा आणि आता' ह्या तुलनेसाठी त्यांनी आजच्या स्थितीतील त्या त्या ठिकाणी जाऊन छायाचित्रे काढली फाटक कुटुंबीयांनी ऑक्टोबर २०१० साली बालगंधर्व कलादालनात यातील निवडक २०० छायाचित्रांचे प्रदर्शन भरविले प्रदर्शनास मिळालेल्या पुणेकरांच्या भरघोस प्रतिसादामुळे दादांच्या या खजिन्यावर पुस्तकरूपाने आणखी काम करण्याचा त्यांचा उत्साह वाढला.

त्यांना छायाचित्रणाबरोबरच शास्त्रीय व सुगम संगीताची आवड आहे. त्यांच्याकडे जुन्या गाजलेल्या हॉलिवूडच्या सिनेमांचा संग्रहही मोठा आहे.

Ajit Phatak was born in Baroda and completed his education there up to  M.E. He later moved to Pune for his job.

He worked as an engineer for 32 years at the Research Centre of  TELCO in Pune, and afterward for 10 years in the United States with  Ford and Volvo. After his retirement, during a visit to Baroda in 2010,  he came across a treasure of photographs.  It was his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Kiran, who suggested that these photographs  should be showcased to the people of Pune through an exhibition.  Dr. Arun then sent this entire collection to Pune.

Ajit’s interest in photography, the time he had after retirement, and the  invaluable collection of photographs inherited from his brother together  created a perfect confluence of opportunities for him.

He worked extensively on these photographs. First, he personally  classified and digitized the entire collection. For some selected photographs,  he recreated a “then and now” comparison by visiting the same locations  and capturing their present-day images. In October 2010, the Phatak family आयोजित (organized) an  exhibition of around 200 selected photographs at the Balgandharva Art  Gallery in Pune. The overwhelming response from the people of Pune  encouraged him to further develop this treasure into a book.

Apart from photography, he also has a deep interest in classical and light  music. He also possesses a large collection of classic Hollywood films.
