Rushi Parampara

भारताला प्राचीन संस्कृतीचा अभिमानास्पद वारसा लाभला आहे, असे आपण गौरवाने म्हणतो. मात्र, हा वारसा ज्या प्राचीन आधारस्तंभांनी पेलला, त्याबद्दल म्हणजेच येथील महान ऋषी परंपरेबद्दल आधुनिक पिढीला फारशी माहिती नाही. वेदकाळातील ज्ञानयोगी असा ज्यांचा अभिमानाने उल्लेख करावा, असे ऋषी काळाच्या ओघात केवळ गोत्र सांगण्यापुरते मर्यादित राहावेत, ही किती दुर्दैवाची गोष्ट! वेदकाळात ऋषीच नव्हे तर ऋषिकाही समर्थपणे वेदांचा अभ्यास करीत होत्या. 'ऋषी परंपरा' या पुस्तकात डॉ. इंदुमती दुनाखे यांनी अतिशय सोप्या, रसाळ भाषेत प्राचीन काळातील काही ऋर्षीबरोबरच अज्ञाताच्या अंध:कारात लोपलेल्या ज्ञानवती ऋषिकांचा परिचय आजच्या पिढीला करून दिला आहे. ऋषी व ऋषिकांचे कार्यकाल, त्यांचे कार्य, आणि ऋषिकालीन समाजव्यवस्थेचे अभ्यासपूर्ण व यथार्थ चित्रण या पुस्तकात केले आहे. हे पुस्तक वाचून संस्कृतीचा अभिमान बाळगणाऱ्या नवनवीन अभ्यासकांना संस्कृतीशी निगडीत ज्ञानाची परंपरा पुढे नेण्याची प्रेरणा मिळेल, अशी अपेक्षा आहे.

We proudly say that India has inherited a glorious legacy of ancient culture. However, the foundational pillars that upheld this legacy—namely the great sage tradition—remain largely unknown to the modern generation. It is indeed unfortunate that the sages, who were revered as enlightened seekers of knowledge during the Vedic age, are today remembered merely for identifying one’s lineage (gotra).

In the Vedic period, not only male sages but also women sages (rishikas) actively and competently studied the Vedas. In the book “Rishi Parampara,” Indumati Dunakhe introduces the present generation to both well-known sages and the learned rishikas who have faded into the obscurity of history. Written in a simple and engaging style, the book presents a well-researched and authentic account of the lives, contributions, and timelines of these sages and rishikas, along with a vivid depiction of the social structure of that era.

It is hoped that this book will inspire new learners who take pride in Indian culture to carry forward the rich tradition of knowledge associated with it.
