आपल्या देशात बालविवाहाच्या प्रथेमुळे बालविधवांचे जीवन भकास आणि अर्थहीन होऊ लागले. पुढे महाराष्ट्रात इंग्रजी शिक्षण घेणाऱ्या उदारमतवादी लोकांनी त्यांच्यासाठी मोठ्या प्रमाणावर काम केले, पण तत्पूर्वी खूप वर्षे आधी हे काम संतांनी केले. समर्थ रामदासांनी सतराव्या शतकात अठरा बालविधवांना उपासना मार्ग दाखवला आणि त्यांचे जीवन अर्थपूर्ण बनवले. त्यांपैकी एक अग्रगण्य नाव म्हणजे आक्कास्वामी.

समर्थ रामदास स्वामींच्या निधनानंतर समर्थ संप्रदाय एकसंध बांधून ठेवण्याचे कामी आक्कास्वामी यांनी केले. छत्रपती राजाराम महाराजांच्या निधनानंतर ताराराणींनी स्वराज्याची धुरा आपल्या खांद्यावर घेतली. या दरम्यान औरंगजेबाने सज्जनगड काबीज केला. त्यावेळी तेथे असलेले श्रीराम पंचायतन आणि समर्थ रामदास स्वामींच्या समाधीला धोका निर्माण झाला होता. अशा प्रसंगी न डगमगता आक्कास्वामी यांनी समर्थांची समाधी भिंत बांधून लपवली आणि राम पंचायतन सोबत घेऊन त्या निबिड अरण्यात जाऊन राहिल्या. अशा खंबीर, दूरदर्शी, उत्तम नियोजन कौशल्य व समर्पित भाव असलेल्या समर्थांच्या ज्येष्ठ शिष्या आक्कास्वामी यांचा जीवनपट सांगणारे हे चरित्र आहे.

Because of the practice of child marriage in India, the lives of child widows often became bleak and meaningless. Later, liberal-minded people educated in English in Maharashtra worked extensively for their welfare, but long before that, the saints had already begun such efforts. In the seventeenth century, Samarth Ramdas guided eighteen child widows toward the path of devotion and gave new meaning to their lives. Among them, one of the foremost names was Akkaswami.

After the passing of Samarth Ramdas Swami, Akkaswami played a major role in keeping the Samarth sect united. Following the death of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, Tararani took charge of the Swarajya. During this period, Aurangzeb captured Sajjangad Fort, putting the sacred Shri Ram Panchayatan and the समाधी (memorial shrine) of Samarth Ramdas Swami in danger.

At such a critical time, Akkaswami showed remarkable courage and determination. Without losing hope, she concealed Samarth Ramdas Swami’s shrine by building a wall around it and carried the Ram Panchayatan with her into a dense forest for protection.

A poet with a spiritual essence. She has published two poetry collections.

In addition to poetry, she has written stories and novels, including works like Mushafiri and Beej Ankure Ankure, a book based on experiments related to value education. She has also published biographical novels based on the lives of Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Mata Amritanandamayi.

Her research at the Pune-based institution Gyanprabodhini has resulted in biographical writings on Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Sister Nivedita.

She has also published the essay collection Sanskruticha Prasadkhuna, which focuses on Indian culture and its timeless values, and it has received an excellent response from readers.
