माती जिवंत असते. तिला जर मोकळा श्वास घेता आला, तर ती चांगली राहते, फळाफुलांनी बहरते. माती मेली तर नुसती जमीन शिल्लक उरते. माती मरण्याची अनेक कारणे आहेत, त्यात पाटाने पाणी देण्याच्या पद्धतीमुळे जमीन नापिक झाल्याची अनेक उदाहरणे आहेत. माती पुढच्या पिढ्यांसाठी सकस ठेवायची असेल, तर ठिबक सिंचनाने पिकांना पाणी देणे ही फार महत्त्वाची गोष्ट आहे, त्याकडे लक्ष देणे आवश्यक आहे. जमीन नापिक होण्याची अनेक कारणे आहेत. त्यात पाटपाण्याने पाणी दिल्याने अनेक ठिकाणी जमिनी नापिक झाल्या आहेत. सध्या देशपातळीवर अशा जमिनीचे प्रमाण एकूण लागवडीखालील जमिनीच्या १.६४ टक्के, तर महाराष्ट्रात ३.५ टक्क्यांहून अधिक वाढले आहे, असे सरकारी आकडेवारी सांगते.

Soil is a living entity. If it is allowed to breathe freely, it remains healthy and flourishes with abundant growth. When soil dies, only barren land remains. There are many reasons for soil degradation, and one major cause is the traditional flood irrigation method, which has led to land becoming infertile in many cases.

If we want to preserve soil fertility for future generations, adopting drip irrigation is extremely important. There are several factors responsible for soil becoming unproductive, and excessive use of flood irrigation has significantly contributed to this problem. According to government statistics, such degraded land currently accounts for about 1.64% of the total cultivated land in the country, while in Maharashtra, it has risen to more than 3.5%.
