संस्कृत साहित्यात गद्य आणि पद्य दोन्ही शैलींचा वापर करणाऱ्या काव्याला चंपूकाव्य म्हणतात. विश्वगुणादर्शचंपू हे संस्कृत साहित्यातील एक अपूर्व चंपूकाव्य आहे. मध्ययुगीन भारताचे वर्णन करणारे ते एक प्रवासवर्णन आहे. हया काव्यात दोन गंधर्व भारतातील विविध तीर्थक्षेत्रांचे, प्रदेशांचे, प्रादेशिक वैशिष्ट्यांचे तसेच रामानुजाचार्य, मध्वाचार्य यांसारख्या महान आचार्यांचे वर्णन करतात. सर्वसामान्यपणे संस्कृत काव्य हे रामायण, महाभारत वा पुराणातील एखादया कथेवर किंवा काल्पनिक कथेवर बेतलेले असते. पण या कल्पनेला छेद देत ह्या काव्यामध्ये कवी वेंकटाध्वरी याने आपल्या आजूबाजूच्या समाजाचे वर्णन केले आहे. तत्कालीन भारतातील परकीय आक्रमणाविषयी म्हणजेच यवनांच्या शासनाविषयी देखील हे काव्य भाष्य करते, जी संस्कृत साहित्यात सहसा न आढळणारी गोष्ट आहे. नव्याने भारतात वावरू लागलेल्या ब्रिटिशांविषयीचे निरीक्षणही त्याने नोंदविले आहे. काशी नगरी, जगन्नाथपुरी, गुजरात, महाराष्ट्र हया प्रदेशांचे वर्णन विशेष वाचनीय आहे. खास करून येथील लोकांची वैशिष्ट्ये त्याने मार्मिकपणे नोंदविली आहेत. ह्या काव्याची रचना दोन गंधर्वांमधील चर्चा अशा स्वरूपात करण्यात आल्याने कुठल्याही विषयाच्या दोन्ही बाजू मांडण्याचा प्रयत्न केलेला दिसतो. आजपासून ३५० ते ४०० वर्षे आधीच्या भारतातील विविध शैव, वैष्णव संप्रदाय, त्यांचे आचार, परस्परांशी त्यांचे असलेले संबंध, साम्याचे आणि फरकाचे विविध मुद्दे याविषयीच्या रंजक माहितीचा हा खजिना आहे.

The narrative unfolds through a dialogue between two Gandharvas, who describe various sacred pilgrimage sites, regions, distinctive cultural features, and renowned spiritual teachers such as Ramanujacharya and Madhvacharya.

Unlike most Sanskrit literary works, which are typically based on episodes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, the Puranas, or fictional narratives, poet Venkatadhvari departs from convention by depicting the society and culture of his own time. The work also offers insightful commentary on the rule of the Yavanas (Muslim rulers), a subject rarely addressed in classical Sanskrit literature. Additionally, it records the poet's observations on the British, who had only recently begun establishing their presence in India.

Dr. Samira Gujar Joshi holds an M.A. in Sanskrit (2005) and an M.A. in Marathi (2008). She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Mumbai in 2011 for her research on "The Influence of Bharata Muni's Natyashastra on Marathi Theatre." She qualified the UGC-NET in Sanskrit (2012) and UGC-NET in Marathi (2021).

From 2016 to 2019, she taught Sanskrit at Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai. Between 2021 and 2023, she taught Literary Theory and Marathi Drama to postgraduate students at Smt. Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College, Ulhasnagar.

Dr. Joshi is a regular columnist and feature writer for leading Marathi newspapers such as Sakal, Loksatta, and Maharashtra Times. She has delivered numerous lectures on Sanskrit drama, the Natyashastra, and various aspects of Marathi literature through academic and cultural lecture series.

She has authored the screenplay for the short film "Kalajayi Savarkar" (2022) and the book "Madhurav Boru Te Blog" (2022), for which she received the Maharashtra Times (M.Ta.) Samman and was nominated for the Sanskritik Kaladarpan Award.

In recognition of her contributions to the field of anchoring and public presentation, she was honoured with the Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar Award, presented by the then Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. She has also participated in the Digital Sanskrit Learning Programme on the Bharatvidya digital platform of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute.

Dr. Joshi has published several research papers on Natyashastra, Sanskrit theatre, and related literary subjects. She is a familiar face on Doordarshan Mumbai, where she has regularly worked as a presenter for various programmes. In addition, she is an accomplished actress, having appeared in several television serials and films.
