स्वातंत्र्यानंतर १९५२ साली अण्णा विधान परिषदेवर (MLC) निवडून गेले. पहिल्याच लोकसभा निवडणुकीत त्यांनी तत्कालीन मावळते खासदार उत्तमराव पाटील यांचा तब्बल १ लाख ४८ हजार मते मिळवून प्रचंड पराभव केला. हा विजय इतका ऐतिहासिक होता की त्याची तुलना थेट पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू यांच्या विजयाशी झाली. पुढे १९६७ आणि १९७१ च्या लोकसभा निवडणुकीतही त्यांनी आपले मताधिक्य वाढवत सलग तीन वेळा खासदारकी भूषविली.
संसदेत पोहोचूनही अण्णांचा पाय धुळ्याच्या मातीत घट्ट रोवलेला होता. ते दिवसाचे अठरा तास जनतेच्या प्रश्नांसाठी राबत असत. दुष्काळग्रस्त धुळे जिल्ह्यासाठी त्यांनी शासनाशी संघर्ष करून 'पूरमेपाडा' आणि 'सय्यदनगर' ही दोन धरणे मंजूर करून घेतली. धुळे जिल्हा मध्यवर्ती सहकारी बँक, जिल्हा दूध संघ आणि धुळे पॉलिटेक्निकची स्थापना करण्यात अण्णांचा सिंहाचा वाटा होता. गोरगरिबांच्या मुलांना उच्च शिक्षण मिळावे म्हणून त्यांनी 'श्री शिवाजी विद्याप्रसारक संस्थे'चा विस्तार केला.

After Independence, in 1952, Anna was elected to the Legislative Council (MLC). In the very first Lok Sabha election, he achieved a resounding victory over the then sitting Member of Parliament, Uttamrao Patil, securing a remarkable lead of 148,000 votes. The victory was so historic that it was compared to the triumph of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru himself. He further increased his margin of victory in the 1967 and 1971 Lok Sabha elections, serving as a Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms.
Even after reaching Parliament, Anna remained deeply connected to the soil of Dhule and its people. He worked up to eighteen hours a day to address public concerns. For the drought-prone Dhule district, he fought tirelessly with the government and succeeded in securing approval for the Purmepada and Sayyadnagar dams. Anna played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Dhule District Central Cooperative Bank, the District Milk Union, and Dhule Polytechnic. To ensure that children from underprivileged backgrounds could access higher education, he expanded the activities of the Shri Shivaji Vidya Prasarak Sanstha.
