Dr. Sitaram Dagadupant Kulkarni, an expert in the field of soybean processing industry, completed his B.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering in 1975. In 1977, he obtained his M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and later earned his Ph.D. degree in 1993.
In 1976, he was selected as a Scientist through the national-level Agricultural Research Service examination. He began his career at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. From 1987 to 2016, he served as a Chief Scientist at the Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal. During this period, he efficiently handled key roles such as Head of Department, Project Director, and Director of the Institute.
Throughout his career, he consistently conducted research on processed pulses, soybean, and fruits. He strongly believed that promoting agro-processing activities in rural areas could generate employment opportunities for rural youth and women, while also helping to increase farmers’ income. He also believed that incorporating soybean into the daily diet could help reduce malnutrition in the country.
In the field of agricultural processing, he authored more than 200 research papers and approximately 20–23 books and booklets. He remained actively involved until the end of his life in guiding farmers and new entrepreneurs in agro-processing industries.
Dr. C. D. Kulkarni passed away suddenly on 10 May 2019.
