Vedyanchi Sharyat (Firasti-5)

Author(s):  Uttam Kamble

Just as life needs a purpose, running too requires a reason—a path. It needs a road that emerges from within oneself. It also needs a form and a meaning. Without any of these, merely running—running aimlessly—becomes meaningless. In such running, one may feel as though they have traveled far, but when the illusion bursts, it becomes clear that running without purpose was futile.

In “Race of the Mad,” thinker and writer Uttam Kamble writes about this very madness of purposeless running. Through essays like “The Flood of Engineers,” “India at the Signal,” “Villages Running Toward the Cities,” “Throw Money, See God,” and “Society Protectors on the Hoardings,” he attempts to burst the bubble of illusion that surrounds society.

Uttam Kamble was born on 31 May 1956 in a poor rural family in Chikkodi Taluka of Belagavi district, Karnataka. He grew up in very humble circumstances, and his mother had little formal education. As a child, Uttam often helped her with daily work at home. Despite these challenges, he became the first person in his family to receive formal education.

During his youth, he worked hard to support himself while continuing his studies. He took up small jobs such as selling goods and delivering newspapers as a paperboy. These early struggles shaped his determination and helped him continue his education, eventually leading him toward a successful career.

Uttam Kamble completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, in 1978. After graduating, he began his journalism career in 1979 by joining a small Marathi daily newspaper called Samaj.

In 1982, he joined the Sakal Media Group, one of the leading media organizations in Maharashtra. From that point onward, he continued his professional journey with the Sakal Group, dedicating the rest of his career to journalism and making significant contributions through his writing and editorial work
